Pauline Cloteal Jones Knighton-YoungPauline Cloteal Jones Knighton-Young, 96 of Amarillo died Monday, December 22, 2012.

Services will be Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Reverend James L. Collins, Pastor-Eulogist. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St.

Pauline Cloteal Jones Knighton-Young died December 17, 2012. She was born December 25, 1915, in Montgomery, Texas. She was the only child born to Cirrilla Bettye Manning and Porter Jones. God blessed her to live nearly 97 years.

Mrs. Knighton-Young spent her early years in Montgomery, Galveston, and Amarillo, Texas. Graduating from Central High School in Galveston in 1930, she then attended Prairie View A&M College, College Station, Texas. She returned to Amarillo and met and married Hebert Curtis Knighton in June, 1935. To this union five children were born. The first two did not survive infancy. The other three girls, Rosemary, Bettye Sue, and Carlotta were her heart’s delight. She married Roy Young in 1985.

Mrs. Knighton-Young spent most of her working career in the public sector. She served as a Potter County Deputy for two terms, totaling 10 years. She served as an elected Judge for Percent 413 for several years. Furthermore, she served for a time as chairwoman of the NAACP Freedom Banquet. She is also a current member of the Amarillo United Citizens Forum. In the late 50’s and 60’s, as the mother of three girls, she was active in Girl Scouting and served as Troop Leader for many years.

She was a deaconess of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she was baptized and spent 88 years as a devoted member. She was so proud of the fact that she had been elected Queen of Mt. Zion – a title she retained until her homegoing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, Herbert Curtis Knighton and Roy J. Young.

She is survived by three daughters: Dr. Rosemary K. Harkins, Oklahoma City; Bettye Sue Briggs(Bobbie); Carlotta Randle(William) of Amarillo, Texas; three grandchildren; Herbert D. Walker(Roseanne)San Francisco, CA.; Richard Jewett, Amarillo; Andrali R. Jewett, Oklahoma City; one great-grandson, Jon Darrell Walker, Seattle, WA; and niece; Theresa Nickerson(Greg) Amarillo, TX. ; three cousins: Autrey B. Williams (Robert), Denver, CO; Raymond Smith Houston, TX; Frank Manning, Birmingham, AL and adopted daughters Elaine Marshburn (Chicago); and, Emma Ruth Carr (Amarillo) as well as many more relatives and friends.

She will be missed by her beloved pet, Nic and his pet companions Ellie (dog), Jojo (dog), Cali (cat) and Kameko (cat).
