Mr. Terry was born in Clarksville, Texas on August 16, 1922 to Henry Martin Terry and May Etta Giddens Terry. He attended Matador High School and volunteered for the Army in 1942. He was a Tank Commander 2736 and served in the Eastern Mandates and Southern Philippines. At the end of WWII he became a resident of California. Mr. Terry worked at Camp Pendleton after the war and then worked for Standard Oil and JC Penney. He retired in 1984 and married Leona Cox on April 14, 1984. He lived in Matador until his death. Ellis and Leona enjoyed traveling and playing golf. Mr. Terry was a very special and happy person. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Matador. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Matador Health and Rehab Center and to Pastor Bill Manney for their compassion of Ellis. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Leona; son Hal Terry, daughter in law Joyce and grandchildren Lisa, Justin, and Josh; son Kenneth Terry and grandchildren Kenny, Michael and Marsha; daughter Sandy Crabtree and grandchildren Kimberly, Debbie and John; two stepsons: Ronnie Cox and the late Don Cox as well as 20 grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on, Monday August 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at East Mound Cemetery in Matador with Pastor Bill Manney of First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home of Matador.
