LaVerna Vineyard

LaVerna was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Huntington Beach, CA to Verne and Thelma Nelson. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1943. LaVerna and family moved to Amarillo when she was one year old when her father opened a drug store, Nelson Drug, on 10th Street. Her sister, Elaine, was born in Amarillo five years later.

She loved to dance, and fell in love with a young man she was giving dance lessons to back in 1943. They married in Dallas on Oct. 9, 1943. Shortly after, he would head off to war. LaVerna was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Truman, for 64 years before his passing in 2008. She supported him in everything he did. They raised three beautiful daughters together.

She loved her family as it continued to grow and felt blessed to have them. She was a loving and supportive mother, fun and caring grandmother, and adoring great-grandmother. She had a great sense of humor and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

LaVerna is now reunited with her husband and her sister with a clear mind and tranquil spirit.

Survivors include her three daughters, Gail Kolander and husband Jerry, of Lubbock, Janet Rowe and husband Robert, of Amarillo, and Vicki Davidson and husband Wayne, of Lubbock; six grandchildren, Angela Davis and husband Scott, of Cypress, Keri Jiou and husband Charlie, of Lubbock, Geoff Kolander and wife Amber, of Austin, Trey Rowe and wife Elisha, of Lubbock, Shila Ison and husband Jim, of Haslet and Brett Davidson and wife Beth, of Lubbock; and seventeen great-grandchildren, Dustin, Bryan and Jadyn Rowe, Nicholas and Rebekah Jiou, Peyton and Carson Davis, Harrison, Lilly Kate, Evan and Anna Kolander, Sydney, Delaney, Maclain and Kinley Ison, and Hallie and Belle Davidson.
