Melvin “Buddy” Lawrence Meyer

Melvin (Buddy) Lawrence Meyer was born October 1, 1929; on the Lehman homeplace in Beaver County, Oklahoma to Dick and Victoria (Severin) Meyer. Buddy attended school in Booker, TX. Buddy married Virginia Viola Goode on September 2, 1948; they made their first home in Wheeler where Buddy farmed and ranched. They moved to the Booker area in 1958 and eventually moved to Darrouzett where they have lived the last forty-one years. Buddy was a workaholic and loved driving trucks; but it was his family, especially his six daughters that brought him the most enjoyment in life. Buddy passed away on August 18 in Perryton; an infant daughter, grandchildren Olivia and Brad Jones; sons-in-law Dave Helfenbein and David Chambers; his parents; and a brother Cecil Meyer precede him in death. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday August 22 at 1:30 pm in the Darrouzett School Auditorium with Pastor Fred Huff and Brother Clay Wells officiating; interment will be in the Darrouzett Cemetery under the direction of Good Samaritan Funeral Service. Survivors include: wife Virginia of the home; daughters Cecelia Cates and husband Steve of Beaver, OK; Diana Helfenbein of Perryton, TX, Glenda Jones of Darrouzett, TX; Vickie Thurman and husband Darrell of Perryton, TX; Joni Baker and husband Robert of San Antonio, TX; and Jamie McNeely and husband Jim of Darrouzett, TX; grandchildren Shayla Cates, Theron Cates and wife Stacia, Amanda Helfenbein, Michell Turner and husband Terry, Donna Dunn and husband Justin, Jay Basler, Tami Lowry and husband Troy, Kami Appelhans and husband Brent, Darren Thurman and wife Leslie, Natasha Wade and husband TJ, Natalie Boulos and husband Ayman, Sheri Blau and husband Justin, Jessica Clayton and husband Lyle, and Chris Chambers and wife Heather; twenty five great grandchildren and one on the way; and five great great grandchildren; brothers Wendell Meyer of Olton, TX, Bernard Meyer and wife Sue of Mabank, TX, and Glendell Meyer and wife Rose Marie of Booker; a sister Clarine Deeds and husband Gene of Lubbock, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
